Ethics Committee Recommends CENSURE of Chuck Edwards. His Lawyers Say the Committee Broke Its Own Rules to Do It.

The House Committee on Ethics released its report today in the matter of Representative Chuck Edwards (R-NC-11), finding that the Congressman violated the House Code of Official Conduct through his treatment of two young female staffers and recommending that the full House CENSURE him. A censure is the most serious sanction the House can impose short of expulsion.

After 16 witness interviews and a review of nearly 1,500 pages of evidence, the bipartisan Committee found that Edwards "engaged in persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct towards two young female staffers." One was 19 when she started with him. Both women left congressional service.

Edwards, through his attorneys, filed a blistering 14-page response calling the recommendation "literally unprecedented" and accusing the Committee of trampling its own rules. We are hosting the Committee report, the exhibits, his full response, and the press release.
